envelope guy: part 1 (how we met)

I know, I’ve been all over social media posting pictures of me and Dallin, but I can’t help it…I’m in love…sue me.

So here’s the deal.  I’m a girl, and let’s be honest, girls like details.  So I’m going to give you all a very detailed version of my love story in parts. (I just freak out when I type that.  I have a love story!)

I met Dallin through Brad. (thanks Brad!) Brad is my best friend Karina’s older brother.  We all became friends pretty fast. (Karina has a gift in bringing people together, so if you want to get married, text me and I’ll give you her number. Anyways, I digress…)

Brad would do Taco Tuesdays and Waffle Wednesdays at his apartment on a weekly basis.  Hence how I met Dallin.  Dallin and Brad were roommates. To be honest, when I first met Dallin I thought – oh he’s cute.  I’m going to flirt with him. (Judge me all you want.  In my defense, I was leaving on a mission soon, and was not thinking anything in the future.  In fact, I thought Dallin wasn’t really even my “type” at first. Funny how that turned out 🙂 who believes in “types,” anyways?)

Here’s the proof that Taco Tuesday really happened and that Dallin and I actually did know each other before the mission.  And look! I was sitting right between him and McKall!

So that was it!   Every taco tuesday we would talk a little, and make tacos, and do the dishes together (He did the dishes and was a boy in college.  That was enough to make any of us look twice.)

I will admit I even stalked him on Twitter and I found this tweet and I just KNOW he was talking about me (and all of my adorable roommates I suppose…surprise Dallin! aren’t you impressed with my stalking skills? it took me like an hour to find this on Twitter.  But if any of you are ever trying to find a really old tweet… I can teach you.)

Well, Dallin, I’m glad you didn’t give up quite so fast. I mean, Hulu is great and all…

A couple weeks later I went over and was hanging out with Brad and ended up talking with Dallin in the kitchen about who knows what for like an hour, and he was really nice.

And the next day he messaged me on Facebook (I forgive him, he didn’t have my number) and asked me to go to the tulip festival with him. I told him that “lucky for him, tulips were my favorite flower…” and things have never been the same since. 🙂

I was so pleasantly surprised by that date.  It had made one of my favorite dates of all time!  All we did was walk around, and look at pretty flowers, play on a playground, and talk with a boy in a kilt playing the bagpipes.  But we had so much fun!  Conversation was easy, and we talked about real things. We talked about life, and ideas, and things we had learned from experiences we had, and things we wanted in the future.

And that my friends, is how Dallin and I first met, 2 whole years ago.

Needless to say, expect to see a lot of tulips at our wedding.

Right before the end of the date as I got out of the car, I told him thank you and, “if you ever feel like it, write me a letter sometime.”

But you see, even after a magical date such as this, I was leaving for a mission in literally 10 days, and alas, I thought it was just another great first date and that there was no way he would ever talk to me again, because let’s face it, no guy in the world was interested in all the girls taking off and leaving them.

Coming up: part 2. why I call him envelope guy.

Love,

Emma
