Buono Pasqua! letter from 4/23/14

Cara famiglia,
Buona Pasqua! Or, Happy Easter!.  I know, I’m a couple of days late, but can I just tell you, I love Easter 🙂  It might just make the top holiday.  It’s one of the holidays that has lost less meaning to the world, I suppose.  And, they do Pasqua big here in Italy.
Let me tell you about the week and some thoughts I’ve been having.
On Thursday I went to do a scambio with Sorella Jameson in Pisa.  It’s so hard leaving my daughter in the big city of Firenze all by herself, but she did so good! We taught a lot of Nigerians and saw a member who is a really tall woman.  She loved me, I’d like to think, because I’m tall 🙂  We mourned together abou kids makin fun o us when we were little and how we can never ear heetherwise we scare people. It was pretty hilarious actually.
Here’s a typical Italian conversation that has been getting to me a little bit lately:
Us:  Buon giorno! Come sta lei?  (How are you?)
Them:  Insomma (which means.. eh.. not very good…)
Okay, so no one ever says, oh I’m doing good, how are you?  It’s always, oh life is terrible, I don’t have any work, there is no money, etc., etc.  Well you know.. guess what?  We can still be happy even if we don’t have any money in the world.  That’s speranza 🙂 That’s hope. I’m praying so hard to have the spirit to know how to touch the hearts of these people who truly don’t have any hope in the world.  I know there always is hope, and I know that happiness is attainable in Christ.
That’s the beauty of the resurrection of the Savior, that He overcame death… physical and spiritual death, and that, that is what gives us all the hope to do anything.
Another thing! I know that when God is at the center of our lives, everything will fall into place.
Vi voglio tano bene, e prego per voi,
Sorella Strong
